Hockey Night in Canada

Alexander, Carter and Rob were lucky enough to see the Canucks play the Minnesota Wild on Saturday night - the game was broadcast on Hockey Night in Canada and our signs saying 'Go Canucks Go!' and 'Hi Grandpa' were seen on TV.  We also got a visit from Fin, the Canucks Killer Whale Mascot.  We had a great time and the Canucks won the hockey game 4-3.

SNT TWO

In March we held the second annual 'Splinters & Tin' wooden racquets squash tournament at the Bentall Club in Vancouver. Lots of fun playing with the old racquets - they really are terrible, but the good players seem able to play well with anything. It was a great event and lots of fun again this year.

Vancouver from Cypress Mountain

Vancouver has been under a blanket of fog for the last week or so. It is much more appealing from the sky than the pea soup view on the ground.

Christmas Lunch

We enjoyed Christmas lunch with Ange and Magnus, Martin, Elanor and Joseph. Lots of fun and a great turkey.

Christmas with Mark and Silke

Cynthia and I spent Christmas morning with Mark and Silke, Lucy, Hanna and Maruja. Mark's ice sculpture has set off some friendly competition in the neighbourhood with everyone making forts, snowmen and other creations i the snow.

Merry Christmas

All of Canada is celebrating a white Christmas, the first time since 1971. Snowshoeing, tobogganing and shoveling snow are the activities of choice. Vancouver is covered in blanket of snow and neighbours are out on the street meeting each other and saying hello with their cars snowed in for the holidays. Merry Christmas everyone!

Snow, Snow, Snow!

Lots of fun in the snow. We haven't had this much snow since 1996.

Splinters and Tin 2008

On March 14th, 2008 Gavin Cooper and Rob Attwell hosted the inaugural annual Splinters and Tin Challenge wooden racquets squash tournament at the Bentall Center Athletic Club. Our first champion is none other than Andrew Lynn - it seems he can hit a ball with any type of racquet!

The Christmas Sleepover

We all gather and Mark and Silke's place and had a big Attwell-Cresswell family sleepover with everyone. Christmas should always be this much fun!

Winter is Here!

There's no escaping it - it's cold in Canada. We have had lots of snow and all snowsports are in full swing on the local mountains and the bigger resorts. No complaints about the snow; it's the rain that is a problem. Here are some early season shots from Cypress mountain overlooking Vancouver.

Mass Hysteria

As the playoffs heat up madness is spreading around Vancouver and other hockey loving cities. Here we are at our local, the Five Point, watching the game. It takes a toll on sanity as Sam, Max, Cynthia and Mark attest; it's getting a bit wierd. Vancouver leads Dallas 2 games to 1, next game Tuesday night.

Welcome Golf Season

Golf season has begun: yes for you Southern Hemisphere types we actually have to stop golfing to allow 4 months of non-stop rain to fall to keep life in balance. Finally we can commune with nature without freezing to death.

Sun Run 2007

54,317 Sun Run 'runners' pass through the neighbourhood. It took 50+ minutes for some people just to get to the start line!

Go Canucks Go!

It's playoff time and the Vancouver Canucks are playing the Dallas Stars in the first round of what will be a two-month trip to the Stanley Cup. All the rest of us will long since have hung up our skates for the season. These are photos of Gary, Leeanne and Rob at a recent regular season game against Dallas - which we won - let's keep that trend alive! Thanks to Leeanne for these photos - the shot of the Canucks in action is particularly good; this image captures their top forward, defenceman and goalie in the same frame (Marcus Naslund, Kevin Bieksa and Roberto Luongo).
